Growing up on a farm in rural New South Wales, Australia, I began working with wood at an early age alongside my father, a trained wooden boat builder and traditional timber framer. That foundation led me to guitar making at 15, when I apprenticed with luthier Graham Caldersmith.
Graham had over forty years of experience building classical guitars and violins, along with a Master’s degree in Aerophysics and a deep background in acoustic research. Under his guidance, I completed a seven year apprenticeship that shaped both my technical approach and my understanding of musical acoustics.
Building on that foundation, I now design and craft my own acoustic steel string and classical guitars. My work combines modern bracing systems, resonance tuning, and a clean, refined aesthetic to create instruments with exceptional volume, sustain, clarity, and projection while respecting the natural beauty of the materials.
My goal is to build instruments that offer the player a new palette to explore. An incredibly open instrument waiting for the player to discover music that they didn’t know was in them. More volume than you’ve experienced, sustain that makes new musical ideas possible, projection that fills a room or small hall.
I currently live and build instruments on Vancouver Island with my wife, Celina, and our two sons.
